Our History
In 2012, after many years of being involved in running the business, Mark and Richard Horne took the helm of the well respected, local family funeral company that was initially set up by their grandfather, Dennis Cartledge. Mark joined the company, full time, in 2008 after 16 years of assisting Dennis. Richard, was welcomed into the business a year later.
Dennis purchased the local Funeral Business in 1985. It was formerly owned by Les Micklewright and was situated in Miles Green. Dennis had assisted as a driver bearer for other local funeral companies for many years while running a successful driving school. He then bought the former chapel building in Wood Street and for the first two years ran the business from there. During this time, he, along with his family and the late Richard Kennedy, developed the business through recommendations and trust.
Since Dennis and Edith Cartledge sadly passed away in 2012 the company became under the ownership of Mark and Richard Horne and the company name became Horne Brothers Funeral Directors Limited, the company went from strength to strength under the new ownership. Mark and Richard’s attention to detail and caring natures has given the company an excellent reputation. They renovated the premises and made sure their fleet of vehicles were modern respectful and immaculately turned out for every family.
The Jepson family acquired the business in 2024 and are fifth generation funeral directors.
